Explore Macedonia

In Macedonia, the change of scenery takes place practically at filming speed. Endless stretches of sandy beaches are washed by crystal clear seas in Pieria, Halkidiki, and the islands of Samothrace and Thassos.

A massif of rare beauty commands the area, snow-covered throughout most of the year. Its highest and most famous mountain is Olympus, the mountain of the ancient Greek gods. The area also boasts a number of equally impressive mountains, namely Mts. Pangaio, Kaimaktsalan (Voras) and Falakro. The Rodopi range completes the region’s geophysical map.

The area includes significant ecosystems that comprise wetlands and other habitats of great importance to Europe’s flora and fauna! Greece’s largest rivers flow here (Axios, Aliakmonas, Strymonas, Gallikos or Loudias and Nestos); together with lakes of various sizes (Small Prespa, Great Prespa, Vegoritida, Chimaditida, Doirani, Kerkini, Orestiada) they define the limits of Western, Central and Eastern Macedonia. The fertile macedonian land has played an active part throughout the history of Greek civilisation. Historic monuments known across the world as well as magnificent religious structures compose the cultural heritage of Macedonia. Locals are proud and hospitable people who have cherished and honoured this precious heritage in their everyday lives, through traditions that have stood the test of time for more than a thousand years and the creation of a special gastronomic style…
